Darryl Hannah has promoted this kind of living through her home in Colorado, and its time as well that the general public knows more about the so-called off -grid living. This label actually refers to the kind of living wherein a family or a household will live in a sufficient manner and that household will not rely on the public utilities in the area. So a household that promotes off-grid living is simply an autonomous unit within the community and does not rely on the government or private contractors for water supply, electricity and gas. So how can a family remain autonomous and where will they get the power to make some home appliances and devices run?
For this kind of living, the electrical power that can be used to power most home appliances and devices are sourced on the site. The power is usually from renewable energy resources like wind and the sun. Airflows can be collected and these can be used to run the home wind turbine. The modern wind turbines of today can produce as much as 5 MW. But the home wind turbines may generate less amount of power, but enough to power some of the home appliances.
But most of the time, the electricity that can be used on homes are taken from the sun through solar panels. This type of living also calls for automation when it comes to water resource. An autonomous family that has adopted this kind of living may source the water from the well, the stream or the lake. And depending on the water source, the family may use pumps or filtering mechanisms.
