Before you buy a water filter, it's always nice to check to see what is in the water in your city. All water customers in the US must receive a Consumer confidence report as mandated by the US Environmental Protection Agency. The report is long and boring BUT does tell you what's in the water in your city.
Some cities do have many times the acceptable safety level of some chemical compounds so its good to read through it and then decide what type of water filter is best for your home.
Needless to say, private wells on property can be an even greater concern with federal water violations being common. If you get your water from a private well, then filtering your water is almost a necessity.
There are many types of home water filters, from carafes to faucet-mounted to types mounted on the countertop to finally those under the sink. Each type has its advantages and disadvantages.
And hey, don't forget to check out our water filter blog filled with instructional video on purifying your water.
